Working with the wrong food vendor in the work place can have some costly set backs. Unintended consequences can arise from not taking all factors into consideration when working with a food vendor. Some of these issues can come in on cost, food selection, management and even quality of food.
There are things you should remember when consulting with food vendors.
Identify Where Their “Fresh” Food and Meal Options Come From.
Most vending companies have, or claim to have, healthy and fresh vending options. What you may not know is that many of the vendors order their pre-packaged “fresh food” from out of state from a company whose ingredients are not local. The amount of time it takes for the ingredients to be delivered, in addition to the packaged meal itself being delivered, the “fresh” food can be well over a week old before hitting the break room shelves. However, some vending companies buy ingredients locally and have a chef onsite to prepare meals for delivery, slashing shelf life time down significantly
Custom Vending Options Should be Available
Have you noticed that vending options from vendors are often very limited in selection? That is because vendors and suppliers are usually looped into vending associations that control their purchases with pricing tiers. When vendors purchase in bulk from food suppliers, prices can be inflated as a penalty for purchasing from other vendors, passing down costs on to the customer and ultimately limiting your choice in food selection. Some vendors are able to break away from these relationships and retain better control of the products they carry.
Ensure Vegan and Vegetarian Options are Available
Consumer’s interest in health has been on the rise for quite some time now, and it’s important to make sure that their needs are met with options available for purchase. Having a few snacks that are vegan is probably not going to keep your employees happy. Show your health conscious employees you care by ensuring that they have adequate options by offering entire vegan and vegetarian meals.
Adequate Delivery Options
The last thing you want to deal with when partnering with a vending partner is to regularly be out of stock. Dedicated vendors of quality service will ensure that there delivery needs are met and meet all requirements to keeping the shelves full.
Taste the Products Before Committing
When you’re choosing the right food supplier for your break room, it is essential to taste some of the products to ascertain that the meals produced from the vendor are quality meals and will be enjoyed by employees. Most vendors will offer samples of their food so be sure not to miss this crucial step!
Planning for Damaged Product
What happens when your employee purchases a damaged product? This is an important question that must be vetted out with with food vendors. The ideal situation would be having a 24/7 customer service line that your employees can reach out to directly to ask for a refund, or credit for another meal. Customer experience should always come first!
Make Sure Your Vendor has Great References
Ask the food vendor what other companies they serve in the area. Having an impressive resume of business clients is a great way to reassure that the vending company can and will tell you right away if a vending company can deliver all promises made.
All of these things are important to consider when choosing your next food vendor and will allow you to choose a vendor that really stands out from its competition. Comment below and let us know what you think!
